Park(ing) Day- Newburgh

(source -parkingdaynyc.org)

“Park(ing) Day is a event that reclaims parking spots and transforms them into engaging, people-friendly public spaces for one day a year. These small, temporary public spaces provide a breath of relief from the auto-clogged reality of New York City (Newburgh), and aim to spark dialogue about our valuable public space and how we choose to use it.”

When: Friday, September 18, 2009 11:00 AM – 5:00 AM

Where: Broadway and Lander St
Cross Streets: Broadway and Lander St (corner spot on Broadway)
Newburgh, NY 12550

What: In 2006 public discussions around a Square on Broadway in Newburgh were held. Newburgh residents were excited about the possibility of such a large section of green space right downtown but nothing happened. Now the Newburgh City-owned land ear marked for the Square is for sale by sealed bid to developers and the specs show no indication of a Square. We hope that through creating a temporary park at the location through Park(ing) Day we can remind City Council and our neighbors what a wonderful idea this was environmentally, economically and socially. Hopefully then it can actually happen.
