Meet the Ladies at Washington’s HQ

Since you weren’t around during the 18th Century, here’s your chance to meet Cornelia Clinton or Tryntje Hasbrouck. On Saturday, May 28th, come meet Mrs. Clinton or on Sunday, May 29th, meet Mrs. Hasbrouck at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site. Tours are 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on both days. Reservations are necessary.

On Saturday, Cornelia Clinton, New York’s first First Lady, will be at the home of Mrs. Hasbrouck anticipating the arrival of her dear friend, Martha Washington. Mrs. Clinton will talk about her own Dutch background, her husband, Governor George Clinton, their family and home life and her own Revolutionary War experiences. She’ll also answer any questions posed by visitors who accompany her.

On Sunday, Tryntje Hasbrouck, will be giving her home one final look before turning over the keys to her new tenants, the Washingtons. She’ll be inspecting the rooms, however, she won’t be adverse to sharing some information about the people she rented to throughout the war. Mrs. Hasbrouck will also talk about her local background, her family and their wartime activities and how she felt when faced with the task of moving.
