Blast from the Past

Since Newburgh is a city that has been around since before the use of cars, every once in a while you will find little reminders of what life used to be like a hundred years ago. I found this pole used for tying up horses on Dubois Street at the corner of South Street, opposite the Chapman Steamer Firehouse. Below is a photo dated approximately 1895 of the same kind of pole on Grand Street. Before, these poles were probably outside every residence or establishment, but today most are long gone. It’s amazing that even after 100 years, this one still exists. Do you know of any others that have still survived around the city?
