Badge Commemoration at WHQ

“To Honor A Soldier” is a special presentation taking place at Washington’s Headquarters, Newburgh, on Sunday, August 7th, at 2:00 PM, in honor of the anniversary of the creation of the Badge of Military Merit, forerunner of the Purple Heart.

The Museum Gallery talk will feature a portrayal of Jonathan Trumbull, General Washington’s aide-de-camp. Lt. Colonel Trumbull will announce  the Army General Orders of  the Day,  August 7, 1782, establishing the first  award for enlisted soldiers.

To understand the historical creation of the Badge Of Military Merit, a graphic presentation will follow dealing with the transformation of the Badge into the Purple Heart.
