Habitat Newburgh seeks individual and walker team participation for its Annual Walk for Housing. Registration takes place at 1:30pm at 125 Washington Street (Habitat Headquarters).  The 5K walk begins at 2pm and will pass several completed and in process Habitat Homes.  Walkers will also be able to take in panoramic views of the Hudson River through the Heights Neighborhood.  The day will culminate with the dedication of our 54th House at 44 East Parmenter Street.  This house is sponsored by the employees of Gap, Inc.

For too many families in the City of Newburgh, appalling housing conditions are the norm and not the exception.  Picture a mother cooking dinner for her family under an umbrella to prevent harmful ceiling droppings from becoming a part of her children’s meal.  Other families are forced to pay their neighbor for bathroom privileges because they don’t have working facilities in their apartment. Many are faced with making difficult choices – paying high rents for substandard housing or putting food on the table.

In partnership with the local community, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh strives to make a difference in the lives of these families.  There are over 1800 families eligible to apply for a Habitat home.  Given this reality, Habitat Newburgh is dedicated to build its next 50 homes in 5 years.  With your help, this ambitious goal can be reached.
