Newburgh Flashmob to End Violence Against Women

obr_logo-HQ

On 2/14/13 Safe Homes of Orange County Inc., will be joining with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. This event will take place on Broadway and Concord. The street will be closed off to accommodate the dance.

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.

How You Can Rise:

They are asking local organizations (dance schools, schools, community members, etc) to join in on this day, and RISE with them. They are organizing a flash mob, and are looking for volunteers who would like to join them.

You can organize your own group that can:

a. Join on 2/14 at noon on Broadway in Newburgh.

–or-

b. Arrange dancing on 2/14 at your own time and location. All that is asked is that you record the performance so that it can be included as part of the “Orange County Rises” video.
