Meet Frances Elizabeth Macon Dandridge, fictional great-grandniece of Martha Washington, when she offers her presentation,  “Recollections About My Great-Grandaunt: Martha Washington” at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site on Sunday, September 29th. The program begins at 2:00 PM as part of the 2013 Hudson Valley Ramble and is free with admission to the Headquarters and Museum, which houses over 1,300 artifacts.

Miss Dandridge, visiting from Virginia, has come to the July 4, 1850 dedication of the Headquarters as the first publicly owned and operated historic site in the nation. It was here George and Martha Washington resided during the last days of the Revolutionary War. While at the dedication, Miss Dandridge will reflect upon her Great-Aunt Martha’s life, family connections, tenure at Headquarters Newburgh, and the lasting impression she left for other presidential wives to follow. With pride, she will compare her ancestor with some wives of later presidents and find Martha’s example to be timeless.

Take time from your weekend tasks to visit the General’s headquarters. Browse through the Museum galleries. Hear what Miss Dandridge has to say about her ancestor, Martha. Walk through the rooms of the historic Headquarters. Enjoy the autumnal breezes wafting across the Hudson River. See the signs of fall foliage on the Hudson Highlands landscape.
