This position will be filled by a candidate working at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh through the National Service AmeriCorps program. This is a temporary position, and lasts either 10.5 months or 1700 hours. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh builds homes and community in Newburgh, New York, a small city on the Hudson River about 60 miles north of New York City.

Habitat Newburgh is dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing in partnership with local, hard-working families in need. Reaching across religious, cultural, and racial boundaries, we seek to restore a sense of community with the common goal of strong neighborhoods and dignity through homeownership.

Responsibilities:

-Support Habitat Newburgh’s new building and deconstruction and renovation of homes in our service area. Common tasks include: framing, exterior and interior trim work, exterior and interior painting, porch building, siding, window and door installation, flooring, cabinet installation, and other house building activities.
-Serve as a designated site leader and provide leadership, training, and supervision of individual and volunteer groups as well as partner families in the deconstruction, renovation, and new construction of homes.
-Provide on-site orientations, safety instruction and training on construction tasks to volunteers and partner families as needed in capacity as Construction Crew Leader
-Coordinate and maintain volunteer sign-in records
-Coordinate with Senior Site Coordinator on volunteer scheduling and assignments
-Organize and transport construction-related materials and supplies to sites
-Attend weekly meeting with Site Coordinators, Construction Manager, and Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator
-Attend other staff meetings, events, and required training.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills required for this position

• Experience with or willingness to be trained in general residential construction • Ability to drive a pick-up truck or construction van • Experience with power tools or willingness to learn to use them • Hold a valid Driver’s License and no serious driving-related convictions • Comfortable leading and working with people of all ages and backgrounds • Experience working with volunteers desired • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Physical requirements for this position

-Lift at least 40 lbs
-Ability and willingness to climb ladders and work at heights at or above 2 stories
-Willing to work in the elements (heat and cold)
-Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
