I am very excited to see this house on the market. This house is a Quality Row house, 1 of 5 homes in between Liberty and Grand Street on the north side. Cut up into 4 apartments, this house has taken the longest to receive any restoration work like the neighboring houses have. Looking at an original photo you can see that the top floor is an extension. Interior listing photos reveal that a lot of details have been removed, but still, many remain. In 1883 Thomas Edison stayed in one of these homes as a guest while establishing the Edison Illuminating Company.  And, according to Newburgh: Her Institutions, Industries and Leading Citizens, this is how Quality Row got its name:

“At the time of their erection these house were considered much above the average in cost and elegance, and for this reason, combined with the high social standing of the original occupants, the buildings were known throughout the village as “Quality Row,” a designation which still lingers among our old families.”
