  • ‘Artist Housing’…something doesn’t jibe. First off, it’s not an 50/50 split on ownership as the “artist” holds a 49% minority share http://www.bigcar.org/project/aplr/. That small difference is a big deal. Aside, I was left wondering how this form of ‘shared ownership’ reconciles increasing property taxes. Does the local municipality also ‘lock-in’ the property’s assessment value? If so, how is this considered equitable from the larger community’s perspective relative to increasing costs of shared municipal services? If not, does not the buyer relinquish the traditional mechanism to recoup paid for property taxes (annual deduction aside) if they sell out at their original buy-in cost rather than at a profit (or even a tax deductible loss)? Further, is the sell price, in the least, adjusted to some index (cpi, as example)? fwiw,I e-mailed Big Car…no reply.
How does this home ownership scheme compare to building new houses with volunteered labor and discounted materials only to mortgage them at ‘market’ price with interest?
