  • 11. A willing and able consumer…which gets back to #1. The SBA likes to tout the small business numbers, however, it, and articles like this, too often equate the mom & pop’s with what is increasingly quantifying those numbers. A classification of 1 to 500 employees is too big of a spread to be meaningful, imo. Here’s a visual of what makes up gdp in the U.S. today (it’s interesting to note that the founder of the related SCI started out in the #1 industry)… https://howmuch.net/articles/the-largest-industry-in-each-state-by-gdp. When healthcare and FIRE make up such a large % of the gdp there’s a problem. As per the SBA funding the “small business growth”, their own numbers say otherwise… https://www.sba.gov/sites/default/files/files/WDS_Table3_ApprovalCount_Report.pdf Instead, funding is increasingly sourced from wall st. (see Cher’s article on reit’s) or, as of late, the taxpayer (think pilots, etc.). The best way to help real small business thrive (to include owners, employees and customers) is quit tapping into their collective pockets in an effort to spur “growth” and perpetual “wars on____”. You may be surprised that those other “things” will manifest on their own.
