Pattern (Noah Meyer) makes dreamy electronic folk rock that journeys through time and space. He grew up in the Hudson Valley of New York in a stone house with four older brothers. He first ventured into songwriting with now producer Drew Guido, and they would eventually form Montes Rook with Drew’s wife, Jean. Montes Rook’s debut album received over 1,000 downloads and was recommended by Ingrid Michaelson via twitter. Montes Rook disbanded when Noah moved out west to work on a goat farm, but his desire to keep writing and recording never took a back seat. In 2012 he released his sophomore album under the side project Pattern, and began working on his second album, Ourglass, two years later.
Pattern’s latest project (2017 release) takes inspiration from the American West: a vision of empty winding roads leading to creaky pine forests, a bare foot on the pedal. Folk melodies inspire feelings of vulnerability and nostalgia as subtle synth sounds evoke a searing vastness, leaving the listener with melancholic pop riffs they can’t seem to shake. This is the story of Pattern, an artist forever hung between the vibrations of acoustic and electronic melodramas, where pop hooks provide an outlet for lyrical existentialism.
