Author Talk: The Crew and Battles of the USS Haynsworth

November 5, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Author Martin Irons talks about his book, Phalanx Against the Divine Wind: Protecting the Fast Carrier Task Force During World War 2.

Irons’ book chronicles the crew and the battles of the destroyer USS Haynsworth DD 700, the first ship struck during a series of kamikaze raids off Okinawa. Eventually 218 American ships would be struck, 36 ships were sunk, and nearly 5,000 sailors perished. Assigned to that ship were John McAllister of Renwick Street in Newburgh, and Ernie Satterly of Meadowbrook, NY.

This event is FREE and open to the public. It will take place in the Newburgh Free Library Auditorium.
