Capture Our Past @ WHQ

June 20, 2015 - June 22, 2015

As the first publicly owned historic site in the nation, Washington’s Headquarters has been open to visitors since 1850. What was the Headquarters like during its early years as a historic site? Interpretive Programs Assistant Aaron Robinson will talk about that and more in the program “Capturing Our Past: Visiting Washington’s Headquarters in the mid-late 19th Century” to be held on June 20th at 11am and 2pm, and again on June 21st at 2pm.

Hear the story of how Washington’s Headquarters came to be purchased by New York State and why it was saved before so many other landmarks. Then explore how Headquarters functioned once it was open and how visitors would have experienced the site over 150 years ago.

This presentation will be given as part of New York State’s Path Through History Weekend, which showcases the state’s diverse history. The program is also offered in conjunction with the city-wide festival, Newburgh Illuminated, on June 20th. Due to all of the activity surrounding the site on that day, please call the site at 845-562-1195 for directions, parking information and further details.
