Hats Off To Summer @ Washington’s HQ
August 23, 2014 - August 24, 2014
Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site invites you to tip your hat in tribute to the last glorious days of summer during Hats Off To Summer! on Saturday, August 23rd , 11 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday, August 24th, 1-5 PM.
Children and those young at heart are invited to make tricorns and mobcaps and wear their creations throughout the day. The historic Hasbrouck farmhouse, no stranger to such headgear since General and Mrs. Washington headquartered there during the last days of the Revolutionary War, will be open for guided tours.
While headquartered at the Hasbrouck House, General Washington announced the Cessation of Hostilities – a prelude to the signing of the Peace Treaty of Paris officially ending the Revolutionary War, quelled a potential military rebellion, and created the Badge of Military Merit, precursor to the Purple Heart.
If you like, wear your 18th century chapeau on a tour of the Headquarters, or in the Museum, which houses the award-winning exhibit, “Unpacked & Rediscovered: Selections from Washington’s Headquarters’ Collection” featuring over 1,300 artifacts, or wear it while strolling through our picturesque park. The take home craft is free with Museum admission.
