Kites Over the Hudson

September 23, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Be part of hundreds of flying kites at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, in Newburgh, on Saturday, September 23rd, 2 to 4 PM, during “Kites Over the Hudson,” our annual Hudson River Valley Ramble event.

Free kites will be given to the first 150 children ages 15 and under courtesy of the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands. Refreshments will be available to all.

The historic Hasbrouck House served as Headquarters for General Washington, and was also used by his wife Martha, several of his aides, guards, slaves, and servants. It was here that General Washington announced the ceasefire ending the fighting of the Revolutionary War, authored some of his thoughts for the new republic, and created the Badge of Military Merit, forerunner of the Purple Heart. So much history is within the house’s walls – the first publicly owned historic site in the nation, which opened in 1850.

Admission to the Museum and Historic Hasbrouck House, open 11 AM until 5 PM, is free that day compliments of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation. Contact 845-562-1195 for further details.
