National Night Out Against Crime

August 5, 2014 @ 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm

On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 local organizations, churches, and community partners will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out (NNO). The event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) involves more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world, with more than 34 million people expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

This year’s all-free NNO events will be at a central location, Delano-Hitch Recreation Park, 401 Washington Street, from 4:30pm – 7:30 p.m. The lineup of activities includes bouncy houses, a basketball tournament, and DJ Ms. Perfect Touch. The soccer fields and the Aquatic Center will be open. There will be free snacks and information available from the many partnering organizations. Following NNO a free movie “Despicable Me 2” will be featured in the stadium at 8 p.m.

NNO is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. This is the 17th year for NNO in the City of Newburgh, and last year, more than 5,000 residents participated across the city.

This year’s event is spearheaded by the City of Newburgh Recreation Department, with the support of Maternal Infant Services Network, City of Newburgh Police Department, TEAM Newburgh and City of Newburgh Fire Department.
