new theater co. in newburgh – 1st Show!
September 16 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pmgive what you can!
This Saturday September 16th Dykeman | Donovan Theater Lab (a new theater co. in Newburgh) is holding 2 performances of “Requiem” which is partially funded by an Orange County Council for the Arts project grant receive this past spring.
“Requiem” is a theatrical experiment based on the work of Russian poet Anna Akhmatova. Akhmatova began writing her poem, of the same title, during the 1930s “Reign of Terror” when Stalin arrested, executed & sent to Siberian work camps an estimated 20 million of his own people, calling them “enemies of the state.” Written over three decades, the poem wasn’t published in the USSR until 1987.
“Requiem” explores this period of time in Russian history – examining it from the viewpoint of one woman left all alone (played by Emily Dykeman) who has lost both her husband and son. Using a combination of Akhmatova’s poetry, dance, sound (composed by Hudson Valley local Kyle Carlson) story in a bold new way.
