Performance: The Dance Cartel and Storyboard P.
September 23 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Be wowed by the moves of The Dance Cartel and Storyboard P. during an exciting afternoon of dance and improvisational movement at the rooftop of 2017 ‘Outlooks’ artist Heather Hart’s ‘The Oracle of Lacuna.’
The Dance Cartel is after a new brand of dance experience. Taking note of a dance community that often serves a niche audience, the Cartel creates dances that are vibrant, immersive, and often participatory. Without sacrificing technical rigor or artistic ambition as a dance company, we endeavor to employ the social nature of dance, the charge of a party, and the sharpness of a music video to a fresh dance vocabulary that any Joe can get down with.
Storyboard P. is a “visual vanguard” and the recipient of a Bessie Award for Best Emerging Choreographer (2015). He has performed at Mass MOCA (2015), Gateway Arts Center (2017), Watermill Art Center (2017), City Center Summer Concert Series (2017); Sadler Wells in London (2012 & 2017), and the Newark Riverfront Park’s Dance Newark! Storyboard P. has been included in the New York Times Dance Feature, commercials including Apple, Lurpak and Timberland, and video production includes work with JAY Z, Flume & Chet Faker, among others. He is also the subject of a documentary film entitled “Stranger in Sweden” about his experience bringing his art overseas. As the name “Storyboard P.” suggests, he tells stories using his body to depict pictures into visual animations.
