It seems we are getting in a new wave of businesses in Newburgh from Colombia and Ecuador. This restaurant, Toquilla’s opened on Upper Broadway and I have yet to try it. Ecuador is famous for their hearty soups, so this might be a place to try on a cold winter day.

We are getting an Ecuadorian supermarket on Broadway that will sell “breakfast, lunch, food, vegetables, fruit, and grain.” This is a large move for this section of Broadway that has many vacant storefronts near 9W. Over the summer the rear section of the building was expanded to create a second floor. It will be very exciting to see more food shopping options that cater to our immigrant populations.

Noches de Colombia is moving to the shopping center just off I-84 on North Plank Road. This will be their most northern location from Nanuet and New Jersey. They have more locations than I can count spread over Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

Don Hugo’s is a local favorite located in Colonial Terraces that serves Colombian food. It’s not new, but worth a mention. Yelp reviews say Bandeja Paisa is amazing and my Colombian friends speak well of it.

If you’ve been seeing some work done to the old Warehouse Furniture Showroom on 17k it’s because something brand new will be coming to the 30,000 square foot building. Newburgh Vintage Emporium is expanding! It will feature vintage furniture and clothing, antiques, curiosities, re-purposed and locally made goods. There will be approximately 80 vendors. If you are interested in becoming a dealer, click here.

This is an exciting project as the Vintage Emporium located at the northern end of the city, just of the I-84 ramp, attracts many customers from near and far. Now the city will have a revamped shopping destination in the west end of the city. The owners have given their first location a fresh perspective. It will be exciting to see what they do on 17k!

WONDERFUL 1920’s HOME with RIVER & MOUNTAIN VIEWS! On historic 19th century Montgomery St, this lovely & well-cared-for home is a visual delight, both inside & out – whether it’s the Hudson River & Mt Beacon vistas, the magnificent neighborhood homes, or the original arts & crafts detail & craftsmanship throughout the home itself (gorgeous wood staircase, bordered wood floors, crown moldings, original doors/hardware, etc).

In addition to its visual beauty, this home makes great use of interior space & feels larger inside than it looks from the outside – with wonderful entertaining spaces on the 1st and 2nd levels, a bathroom on each of the 3 floors, and top floor master suite with a river view from your bed. The front porch is great for relaxing and looking at the water and historic architectural treasures all around you & the large backyard has nice patio for dining/entertaining.

Other conveniences include a driveway & ample garage space, walkable to the waterfront, schools, mass transit, dining & shopping and a strong community spirit on the block. Many more photos at the link below. Don’t miss this one!
