Rescue Me: 76 Lander Street

Pretty sure this photo was taken on Lander. The basement door was kicked in and there was a lot of debris and garbage inside. 100 years ago, even 60 years ago it was probably an adorable home.

Newburgh is New York State’s second largest historic district after NYC. Newburgh literally has hundreds of dilapidated and abandoned buildings just begging for someone to come scoop them up and restore them. I’ll continue to post my own photos, but if you have a particular building you would like to see saved, email me the photo of any building you appreciate that you would like to see rescued!

  • I do think this house was on Lander Street – I spend many happy years of my childhood in Newburgh because my grandparents lived at 274 First Street in a h ouse that my grandmothers GRANDFATHER built in 1885 – he also built 276 First Street – 278 First Street and 272 First Street – one might say until 1967 when my grandmother and assorted relatives who lived in those houses died – we OWNED the block – he also built 110 Broadway which I understand is still standing if barely – I hope that y ou are successful in rescuing these lovely old homes – I remember them as being so very stately – and the architecture can never be replicated – GOOD luck to y ou
