Inspired by the Buddhist teachings on Hungry Ghosts and a deleted scene from Fred Astaire’s Second Chorus\, the two performers navigate an intimate world carefully guarded by a chorus of personal apparitions. The dance seeks out the hidden parts of everyday narratives and the intimate\, internal spaces we make for them. The eeriest haunting is a haunting of the home. It is unclear who is in charge. It is unclear to whom this home belongs. Threatening and yet strangely loving\, this work questions what comes after a life of haunting? What happens when a ghost dies? \nStill in development\, this work includes appearances by a chorus of spirits and re-imaginings of Astaire’s recordings by composer Matt Wiggers. \nApproximate Time: 20-30 mins \n“Body of Words” is a improvisation performance featuring a+s works and company members. A structured improvisation is set to a recording of an interview or public talk.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Open Movement MOB at the Newburgh Illuminated Festival as we pay homage to LIGHT and it’s many modes of travel.  \nNewburgh Open Movement will be taking to the Safe Harbors Green and Ritz Outdoor Stage at Newburgh Illuminated with a fun and simple movement score that anyone can join – YES\, ANYBODY CAN JOIN! \nBring your kids\, bring your grandparents\, bring your hula hoops or just your favorite dancing shoes – but most importantly\, bring yourself and your sense of adventure.  \nThere will be two performances\, at 1:30 PM and 4:15 PM – join both or only one. Just arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the scheduled performance time and we’ll provide you with a simple set of instructions for playing along. Times are subject to change – stay tuned to this event and the the Newburgh Illuminated Ritz Stage schedule.  \nCraig Chin will be making live music for us\, and we’ll be painting the park in movement\, so don’t miss it – all you have to do is show up and move around for 10 minutes!

DESCRIPTION:Newburgh Open Movement is back for a Fall series at the beautiful Safe Harbors Lobby at the Ritz! \nJoin us on the last Saturday of the month from October to December (10/29\, 11/26\, 12/31) as we co-create time and space for people of all walks of life to come together and enjoy three hours of playful dancing and mindful movement. \nThe first hour of the event is a guided warm-up and dance improvisation workshop led by Ophra Wolf of Force & Flow\, followed by free and open jamming (i.e. time for you to move or observe as you please) starting at 3 PM and featuring live musical accompaniment. \nKids of all ages are welcome to the jam portion with adult supervision\, the workshop at the start is suitable for adults and teenagers. \nDance improvisation is about moving from the inside\, in a way that feels good and organic to your body\, and a dance jam is a setting in which everyone is an equal part of co-creating the dance of the room. \nYou can come dance your heart out\, and you can also just come to stretch quietly and enjoy the energy and focus of a room full of moving bodies. DESCRIPTION:June 25 is the third and final Newburgh Open Movement\, a series of movement improvisation workshops and open movement jams that create safe\, fun and inclusive space for people from all backgrounds and abilities to express themselves and experience conscious and creative connection to others. \nOver eighty people ages 2 thru 92\, in all shades and shapes have already come together to enjoy this event\, which opens up a space like no other for three hours of improvised dancing\, mindful movement and playful co-creation. \nThe event begins with a dance improvisation workshop with Ophra Wolf at 1:30 PM\, followed by two hours of free and open jamming from 2:30 – 4:30 PM with live musical accompaniment by the renowned and insanely talented Katie Down making music on glass instruments\, toys\, and other unexpected tools. And! as a grand finale bonus\, we just got wind that Katie will be joined by grammy award winning reed player\, Matt Darriau (of Klezmatics fame). You won’t want to miss this extraordinary experience! \nDance improvisation is about moving from the inside\, in a way that feels good and organic to your body\, and a dance jam is a setting in which everyone is an equal part of co-creating the dance of the room. \nYou can come dance your heart out\, and you can also just come to observe\, stretch quietly\, sketch and enjoy the energy and focus of a room full of moving bodies. Neither is language – Spanish translation and assistance will be available\, and most of the time we won’t be talking\, we’ll be dancing and listening. Children are welcome with adult supervision\, the workshop is recommended for kids 12 and up. \nThis project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.
