This is in collaboration with the Conservation Advisory Council\, DPW\, and Liberty Street business owners. \nA nice Kwanzan Cherry Tree from Orange Nursery has been selected by CAC. In an effort to fill in some of the empty tree pits in our burgeoning business corridor we are trying to add urban plantings that are vital for complete streets and neighborhoods. In the fall\, the tree that came down during the tornado last year will be grinded down and a new one will be planted in its place. \nWe would welcome your attendance. The project began in 2005 when Rebar\, a San Francisco art and design studio\, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. DESCRIPTION:On August 21\, 2017\, the United States will experience a trans-continental solar eclipse. The total eclipse will move from west to east along a 65 mile wide swath entering North America at Oregon and leaving at the South Carolina shore. \nFor Earthlings\, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and planet Earth. \nIn Orange County\, a 70% eclipse of the sun will happen. The time of the peak is 2:43pm. However\, it will start at 1:21pm and end at 3:58pm. Because the eclipse develops at the time of day when it normally is brightest\, the gradual darkness will be obvious. \nFear Not! This will be a spectacular natural event. Come to SUNY Orange for Solar Eclipse 2017: The Sun in Darkness! \nAstronomy professors William Istone\, Ph.D. and Tom Blon\, MA are celebrating the event on the Newburgh and Middletown campuses\, respectively\, by setting up the large telescopes equipped with sun filters. In addition\, eclipse safety glasses will be provided. On the Newburgh campus come to the Green Oval outdoors at Kaplan Hall\, and in Middletown come to the center of the campus\, the Alumni Green. \nAlso\, live-streaming along the swath where the total 100% eclipse moves will be available for viewing on nine-foot screens in OCTC Great Room 101\, Kaplan Hall (Newburgh) and Sandra and Alan Gerry Forum room 010\, Rowley Center for Science and Engineering (Middletown)\, rain or shine. \nThis opportunity to view the partial solar eclipse with Astronomy professors to guide and explain plus the live-streaming is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:July 9\, next Saturday at 9:00 AM\,  is your chance to really lend a hand on invasive species removal.  The Water Chestnut has taken over the two mill ponds in Algonquin Park and literally covers over 90% of the pond’s surface. The newly formed Preserve Algonquin Park (PAP) group has asked our help to begin a multi-year project to get rid of this invasive.  We have a plan and will need many hands willing to get wet and dirty.\nAll able bodied persons over the age of 18 are welcome and will be appreciated.
