SUMMARY:Invasive species removal from Algonquin Park
DESCRIPTION:July 9\, next Saturday at 9:00 AM\,  is your chance to really lend a hand on invasive species removal.  The Water Chestnut has taken over the two mill ponds in Algonquin Park and literally covers over 90% of the pond’s surface. The newly formed Preserve Algonquin Park (PAP) group has asked our help to begin a multi-year project to get rid of this invasive.  We have a plan and will need many hands willing to get wet and dirty.\nAll able bodied persons over the age of 18 are welcome and will be appreciated. Please wear sturdy shoes and clothes you can get wet\, bring gloves and drinking water\, and\, if you have one\, a metal garden rake.  Meet us at the mill pond in  Algonquin Park located at the corner of Route 52 and Powder Mill Rd. in the Town of Newburgh.\nPlease let us know if you will be there to help by return email to gebhards@earthlink.net.

Apr. 29 will feature a keynote address by Urban Farmer and Food Justice Advocate Karen Washington. \nThe event\, a collaboration of a wide array of community organizations\, will highlight the goal of increasing city residents’ access to healthy food while revitalizing the economic and social vitality of the community.   \nThe Newburgh Urban Farming Fair on Apr. 30 will be held rain or shine at the Safe Harbor Green on the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street\, in the City of Newburgh\, from Noon to 5:00PM.  The opening reception on April 29 will take place at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center at 321 S William Street at 7:00PM. Registration for the cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. Teams will hit the streets at 9 a.m. and gather back at 12 p.m. at Safe Harbors for a post-cleanup barbecue.\nSafe Harbors is seeking cleanup participants of all ages. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. to the Broadway/Liberty Street Lot\, adjacent to the Ritz Theater. Supplies will be provided to participants when they arrive at 111 Broadway. Art works will be on display during the Community Cleanup and prizes awarded at the end of the event.\nStudents will submit work to their school art teacher. The evening will include musical performances by Corey Glover\, Decora\, Michael Monasterial\, Terri Gittens\, Gregory Charlemagne and more. The master of ceremonies will be Poet Gold. The doors will open at 5:00 PM.

DESCRIPTION:Date/Times:  Wednesday\, September 23rd at SUNY-Orange Kaplan Hall. There are two sessions\, both covering the same content\, from 1-4 PM and 6-9 PM. \n \nBackground: Earlier this year\, EPA met with Newburgh stakeholders to discuss the City of Newburgh’s environmental and health issues\, including the need to educate the community on these issues. As a result\, EPA is collaborating withNewburgh stakeholders on a Newburgh Environmental Justice and Environmental Education workshop. Any and all community members and Newburgh stakeholders are welcome!
