DESCRIPTION:This year’s Candlelight Tour\, sponsored by the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands\, is getting ready for its big day this coming December\, with interesting and historic houses on board for viewing by the public. As usual\, the tour will commence at the beautiful historic headquarters of the Historical Society\, the Captain David Crawford House in the Newburgh Historic District. The Society will have decorated the Crawford House with beautiful natural greens\, fruits\, holly\, wreaths\, trees\, flowers\, ribbons and bows. The decorations are selected to represent how a family like the Crawfords might have presented their house to the public during a Christmas and holiday season back in the 1800’s. Each fireplace—and there are several in this beautiful home—is decorated with a separate display of natural greens and flowers. The dining room becomes a haven for homemade candy-trees and sugar cookies. The magnificent cantilevered staircase will be entwined with ropes of garlands and bows creating a dramatic sweeping presence in the main hallway. \nThis year’s tour will include 10 different homes each selected for a different reason\, says Russell Lange\, a member of the tour’s organization committee. “Either they’re architecturally important\, or they have a fabulous view of the river\, or perhaps they’re on fabulous grounds. The person that currently lives there could be an artist or someone who has a wonderful collection; there are all different reasons why we would include someone.” \nThe tour will begin at 12:00 on Sunday\, December 11 and will last until 5:00. The houses are grouped in clusters so one can park in close by and visit several houses and then drive to see another group. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 at the door of the Capt. TRC is a grassroots organization working to advance systems of restorative justice in Newburgh\, N.Y. We develop and teach methods for repairing harm\, healing rifts and nurturing bonds within our community. Currently\, we reside at Space Create on lower Broadway\, where we host free public events and training programs. \nWe envision a future in which the majority of issues currently routed through the criminal justice system and family court are resolved by the communities where those issues arise. \nThis is our first Newburgh fundraiser! DESCRIPTION:Saturday August 6\, The Newburgh Rowing club will hold a community day and fundraiser at their boat house\, located at Ward Brothers Memorial Park at 2 Renwick St. on the Hudson River in Newburgh\, New York.  The event is open to the public and there will be a free learn to row for the community from 12 PM to 1 PM.  The fundraiser will be held from 12 PM to 3 PM\, admission is $10 per person for adults which includes a plate of delicious barbecue food\, kayak rides\, entertainment including a DJ\, bouncy house\, and clown\, and automatic entry into a raffle for a brand-new iPad Air.  Admission  for children five years of age and younger is five dollars per person and will include all of the above but will not include entry into the raffle. SUMMARY:5th Annual 5-Mile Paddle and Oars Challenge
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 19th\, starting at 8:00 am\, we will be hosting our 5th Annual Paddle and Oars Challenge\,” said Coach Kennedy.  “The event commemorates the Great 5-Mile Race for the Rowing Championshp of America\, which was held in 1867 right here in Newburgh\, where 50\,000 spectators gathered on the bluff to watch this national event.  Our event is a 5-Mile challenge open to the public with kayaking and sculling.  It is a challenge\, so even if you have never been in a kayak before\, you can come down at 7:30 am for a free tutorial.  If you can’t do the 5 miles\, just do what you can\, it’s a challenge not a race\, although times will be recorded for the top kayakers and scullers.  All event participants will receive a free pancake breakfast and a beautiful event T-shirt\, which has a print of the 1867 race on it\, thanks to our generous sponsors.  Our major sponsors are the Hudson River Improvement Foundation and HealthQuest\, with many other generous sponsors.  Admission for spectators is free and everyone is welcome to come on down to watch this great event.  There will be pancakes for sale\, a bake sale\, vendors\, face painting for the kids\, free tours of the Boathouse\, a free Learn to Row clinic\, and raffles.  Proceeds go to support shoreline restoration\, the Ward Brothers Memorial Park\, and the youth programs of the Newburgh Rowing Club.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Cycling to Cure Hunger
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday May 31st at 9am\, in conjunction with Dark Horse Cycles\, Brookside Auto and Tire\, and Celina Rofer-BHG Rand Realty\, we will be hosting the 2nd Annual “Cycling to Cure Hunger” benefit bike ride. \nThis is a 40 mile ride that starts right at the brewery at 9am\, and then covers some of the Hudson Valleys most scenic roads\, including crossing over the Newburgh Beacon bridge\, cycling though Beacon and Cold Spring\, crossing the Bear Mountain Bridge\, through Historic West Point Military Academy\, down scenic route 218 and Cornwall on Hudson\, finishing up right where you started – at the brewery. \nParticipants are asked to pledge $1 per mile\, with total proceeds to benefit the HeartStrings program at Valley Central High School. This program provides take home food packets for needy students\, lunch tickets\, hygienic products\, clothing\, and counseling for students that have been victims of abuse. \nAt the brewery participants will be treated to a free beer of their choice\, and a choice of any lunch offerings\, plus live music. A raffle for a juvenile mountain bike worth over $400 will be available with 100% of those proceeds to benefit the students as well. Ride begins at 9 am\, where cue sheets will be handed out and sag service (truck following the route with tubes\, tools\, water etc.) will be provided.
