SUMMARY:Manhattan Short Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Manhattan Short Film Festival [MSFF] is returning to SUNY Orange’s Kaplan Hall on Saturday\, September 24\, 2016. The screening of the ten 2016 winners begins at 7pm in the Orange County Trust Company Great Room 101. \nNow in its 19th consecutive year\, the film festival offers the top ten out of 844 submissions from 52 countries. During a ten day period they are shown in venues in over 250 cities on six continents to over 100\,000 film lovers 15 years old and over. This year the ten finalists hail from eight countries\, with France and Australia represented by two films each. \nHere are the films of the 2016 Manhattan Short Film Festival: \nThe Tunnel ~ 12:35 minutes\, André Øvredal\, Norway \nHold On ~ 20 minutes\, Charlotte Scott-Wilson\, The Netherlands \nCarousel ~ 6 minutes\, Kal Webber\, England \nKaputt ~ 7 minutes\, Volker Schlecht & Alexander Lahl\, Germany \nElla Got A Promotion? ~ 9 minutes\, Richard Diaz & Mike Pusateri\, USA \nBravoman ~ 18:25 minutes\, Evelina Barsegian\, Russia \nOvertime ~ 8:27 minutes\, Craig D. The votes from all venues are counted\, and the worldwide winners are announced on Monday\, October 3 at 10am EST. In addition\, for comparison\, the results of the local vote by attendees\, are announced by Cultural Affairs. \nThe Manhattan Short Film Festival is not a touring festival; rather\, it is a simultaneous celebration of the vibrancy and creativity of the short film genre. The short films in the MSFF will be eligible to enter the Oscars. In 2015\, Shok (Kosovo)\, a short live action film was nominated and Bear Story (Chile)\, an animated short\, won an Oscar. Both were screened in the MSFF.\n \nThe MSFF is one of the great happenings on this month’s Newburgh Last Saturdays #NBLS. Admission to the MSFF is inexpensive at $5 for general admission. All students are allowed free entrance. Tickets are available at the door starting at 6pm. So\, come out for an intense and enjoyable evening of film art. \nIn addition\, the exhibits in the Mindy Ross Gallery and Foyer are open free of charge to the public from 5 to 7pm in Kaplan Hall. \nLocated at the corner of Grand and First Streets\, Newburgh\, Kaplan Hall offers free\, secure parking in its garage via the entrance at 73 First Street. \nThe Manhattan Short Film Festival is presented by Cultural Affairs to which questions may be addressed: (845) 341-4891/9386 and cultural@sunyorange.edu. SUMMARY:Monday Night Movie at the Library - RACE
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free showing of RACE starring Stephan James\, Jason Sudeikis and Eli Goree. Rated PG-13; children younger than 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. \nJesse Owens’ quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics\, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. \nWithout diminishing the accomplishments of Owens\, the film reminds us of our blinkered history with race and the hurdles still ahead.
