A Small Matter Art Opening

August 25, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Safe Harbors Ann Street Gallery is excited to announce A Small Matter, group exhibition with a reception on Saturday, August 25 from 6:30-8:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

A Small Matter is an exhibition of small artworks featuring 30 selected artists, with pieces on display that are limited in size but not imagination. This exhibition provides a wonderful platform and opportunity to showcase an array of small gem-like artworks available in a broad range of subject matter and artistic styles. Visitors can view dozens of small–scale works ranging from the representational to the abstract in a cross section of media: collage, etchings, mixed media, textile art, ceramics, paintings, etchings, and drawings.

For as long as artists have been making art, they have been experimenting on a miniature scale. The history of miniature art goes back to the earliest periods of artistic production and was considered an important genre. Such examples include fifteenth-century Persian miniatures on paper or the sixteenth-century English portrait miniatures executed in watercolor on ivory, which became very popular throughout Europe during the eighteen and seventeenth centuries as personal keepsakes. Today, contemporary artists continue the tradition of exploring the endless possibilities of creative expression on a small scale.

The A Small Matter exhibition also provides an excellent opportunity to obtain an original artwork at affordable prices, whether as a first-time buyer or an established collector looking for a desirable format to fill that small niches in your collection.

Artists featured: Jasmine Alleger, Cynthia Back, Amanda Blake, Emily Barletta, Jason Brockert, Wendy Crabb, Elizabeth Castaldo, Charles Desmone, Hale Ekinci, Carla Fisher, Gary Falkenstern, Adrian Gor, Mathew Torchiana Hoban, Amanda Kavanagh, Kyle Mckenzie, Maria Lupo, Michelle Marcuse, Barbara Marks, J.
