Writer Audre Lorde’s powerful voice, first active over 50 years ago, continues to resonate with our present moment. Her poems and essays, framed by her black queer feminist identity, provide insight into the roles of power and difference in American society.

Join us for any or all discussion groups where we’ll explore a poem and essay. With facilitators, participants will have the opportunity to discuss themes of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Register to learn about the readings and secure your spot!

This is the second Reading and Discussion program in the Frederick Douglass Project in Newburgh. Collaborators in the Audre Lorde: Reading & Discussion Group include PANJA and the Newburgh Free Library. Funded by Humanities New York, this program encourages us to “think deeply about a single idea from a variety of perspectives, allowing texts to become catalysts for civic engagement, cultural understanding, and personal reflection.”

The Frederick Douglass Project is inspired by his legacy and visit to Newburgh in 1870.
