Forgotten Newburghers Remembered

Newburgh has had a proud history of highly accomplished African Americans from the 18th century to the present day. In honor of Black History Month city historian Mary McTamaney will explore some of their lives and their contributions to the city’s history. Including local men and women who gained national recognition for their groundbreaking accomplishments such as author Harriet Jacobs and labor leader Ellsworth Potter. Come and learn about some names and some surprising numbers that tell a story about Newburgh’s many people of color through three centuries.
