We are pleased to announce the opening of a new solo show in the Gallery at Atlas; “Retread” is a new body of work by Newburgh-based artist Matt Kinney.

In “Retread,” Kinney takes objects that create our physical connection with the Earth and transforms them into unrecognizable creations that are both graphically-inclined and experimental. A tire tread becomes a sculpture with two bold yellow stripes forging a visual dialogue with the open road, while a tractor is dismantled and organized into a new, dynamic shape. The original branding remaining on the object is the only mark identifying Kinney’s sculpture’s as formerly functional objects.
