If you love hot small-band jazz from America’s Golden Age of Swing, featuring songs made popular by the great vocal and piano jazz stars, treat yourself to Swingtime Duet ~ an evening of Classic Jazz on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 8pm.   The duo of vocalist Blaine and pianist Shane come to the lovely setting of Kaplan Hall’s Great Room which overlooks the Hudson River.

Selections for the concert are being carefully chosen from the repertoire of the Swing Era.My Blue Heaven, Ain’t He Sweet, Honeysuckle Rose, Melancholy Baby are sure bets to be included. And many more favorites by composers Hoagy Carmichael, Fats Waller, George & Ira Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, James P. Johnson, Art Tatum, Earl Hines, and Teddy Wilson will make the night sparkle.

Terry Blaine’s style of singing is gentle and swinging. JazzTimes’ Christopher Loudon remarks that, “Her subtly risqué style is infectious, blending the white-glove nonchalance of Lee Wiley with the earthy sauciness of Ethel Waters.”

Mark Shane has developed his own solo style that reflects a true sense of living jazz history and continues the tradition of deep swing and lyrical melodic improvisation. The Mississippi Rag has described him as “one of the great accompanists of his time.”
