Art Exhibit & Reception: Allison Sassano

February 22, 2014 @ 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Allison Sassano
Bio/Statement

I have my Bachelors degree in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from SUNY New Paltz. For ten years I worked as an artist making one of a kind jewelry and sculpture. My work showed nationally and internationally. Currently, there are some pieces of my art in a permanent collection at the Racine Museum of Art in Wisconsin. After leaving the art world I became a massage therapist, energy healer, and a mother. However, I still needed a creative outlet. Somehow, I came across the book Soul Collage by Seena Frost. I had always love doing collage and this seemed like the perfect way to explore spiritual, psychological, and emotional aspects of myself through a creative process. The Soul Collage process involves mixing intuition with imagination to make a visual journal that is a reflection of our many faceted selves. Images are intuitively gathered from magazines then almost magically come together to create each card. I often will be surprised by what comes together and what the deeper meaning of the card may be as I meditate on it. As Seen Frost Says ” the images you choose will show your parts- like your ‘nurturer’, ‘your organizer’, your ‘dancer’, or your ‘scared inner child’. These images will represent the archetypes who may seem larger than life, mysterious, and mythic. These images represent the archetypes that have chosen you and who are guiding you. These are the Great Ones who weave your local story into the Larger story of all Creation.” Making these cards has been a very personal journey that I never imagined I would share with the public. I am honored that Lisa Gervais considers them worthy of an exhibition and it is my hope they will inspire others to dive into the Soul Collage process and fall in love with the many beautiful, scary, ugly, and fascinating parts that make us into the precious beings that we are.
