As part of her contribution as NCLB Artist-In-Vacancy, Laura Genes is producing a performance by artist, Stephen Kwok: CHARGER at the vacant mid-Broadway lots in Newburgh on Saturday, August 5th, 2017 at 2pm.
In charger, a group of runners are crouched in a starting block positions within a field of sprinklers. As the sprinklers mechanically spray water, the runners become soaked, but never break from their positions. they maintain their pose of anticipation. Within this elongated moment, charger flickers between preparation and exhaustion, pleasure and labor, care and violence.

It promises to be a beautiful disposition of endurance, involving runners we have recruited the wonderful track and field stars of the local Newburgh Elite Track Team, coached by Malcolm Burkes, members of a team that regularly ranks at the national level. Stephen has presented this performance twice before, and in London just earlier this summer, but this will be the first time he will be staging CHARGER with athletes and in a public setting.
