Washington Birthday Celebration

February 13, 2016 - February 16, 2016

Free

You are cordially invited to our George Washington Birthday Celebration at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site on Saturday, February 13th, Sunday, February 14th and Monday, February 15th, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Each day will begin with General George Washington cutting his own birthday cake. Then, the day will be filled  with  music, military demonstrations, crafts, and historical presentations, with something for each member of the family.

All three days the General will be greeting visitors in his office at the historic headquarters.  Balladeer Thad McGregor will be offering musical entertainment in the dining room of the headquarters, accompanied by his lumberjack. On the grounds, reenactors will be performing military drills culminating at the end of the day with a review of the troops by the General himself. Troops that will be present each day are: Saturday – the 5th New York Regiment, Sunday – Lamb’s Artillery and Morgan’s Rifles, and Monday  – the 5th Connecticut Regiment.

Pick up some interesting historical knowledge with talks each day. For example, on Saturday, Don Hagist will speak about “The Revolution’s Last Men: the Soldiers Behind the Photographs.” On Sunday, George Washington reenactor, John Koopman, will talk about his book, “George Washington at War – 1776.” On Monday, award winning author, Selene Castrovilla will speak about her children’s book, “Revolutionary Friends – General George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.” These and other talks are scheduled throughout the weekend.

Also, children and adults alike are invited to create their own bookplate to use in their books at home. Admission is free, though donations are welcome. Call 845-562-1195 for details and a full schedule of events.
