Warming up with the Washingtons
December 14, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Take time out from the hustle and bustle of your holiday preparations to enjoy an 18th century yuletide afternoon at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site. Come to “Warm Up At The Washingtons’” on Sunday, December 14th, 12 PM until 4 PM. Admission for this event is free thanks to the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands.
Saunter through the seasonally decorated rooms of this historic farmhouse where the Washingtons headquartered during the last winter of the Revolutionary War. The simplicity of decorations – gathered from nature – reflects the limitations the Revolutionary War imposed upon the Washingtons. Yet, as historic interpreters will explain, the Washingtons still managed to acknowledge the yuletide of 1782-83, extending a spirit of hospitality to all who entered the Headquarters.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, The Salmagundi Consort will entertain throughout the afternoon by the Dutch jambless fireplace, offering delightful musical interludes. Cookies and hot cider will be awaiting you by an outdoor fire. Call 845-562-1195 for further details or directions.
While visiting us, stop in and see other homes in Newburgh’s historic district featured on the Candlelight Tours. Contact Crawford House at 845-561-2585 for more information and ticket prices.
