Community Planning and Heritage

I am a city planning graduate student and I am writing my thesis on Newburgh and the intersection of heritage and planning. I am interested to know what community members think could be done in the city of Newburgh to better serve the community and connect with Newburgh’s heritage, especially in the next stage of waterfront development. I would love to know your thoughts…

Partially Examined Life discussion with Frithjof Bergmann; New Work, New Culture

This podcast is extremely relevant to the future of economics, if for nothing else it helps us analyze our current economic environment. This is extremely relevant to Newburgh, in my opinion. Fighting out of poverty via a mix of jobs and new age/modern community self-sustainability.

Talking with Frithjof Bergmann, Prof. Emeritus from U. of Michigan, Ann Arbor about his book New Work, New Culture (2004, English release coming soon).

Frithjof is a world-renowned ex-Hegel/Nietzsche scholar who has worked since the early 80s on projects to realize the goal of “New Work,” which is an alternative to the current, dysfunctional job system. New Work enables people to do work (which is not the same as a “job”) that they really, really want. Human nature is not such that we are born free and need restraining by a social contract; rather, we need institutions to help us develop a self, to figure out what we really want and become free by doing things that we deeply identify with. New Work Enterprises promotes technology like fabricators and cutting-edge farming to support community self-sufficiency in places like Detroit that the job system has left behind. What's needed in Newburgh?

Hey everyone,
I’m not a Newburgh resident but have been increasingly interested in exploring places up along the Hudson to settle in and perhaps create a live/work situation. I’ve visited Newburgh a few times and I feel there has been a lot of growth in recent years. While brainstorming on business ideas I figured I’d put it out there to the locals and see what sort of new services you are looking for? What types of businesses are missing from Newburgh that might do well for the community?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
