Newburgh’s latest coffee spot, 2 Alices is working hard behind the scenes of their newest location on Broadway. Still no word yet on opening date, but it’s looking fabulous already. They are hiring and they also made an announcement looking for artwork to grace their walls:
2 Alices Newburgh now taking submissions for our rotating Art Shows. We have a lot of wall space and are looking for single artist shows that could fill the entire space. We are not art critics but are looking for shows that will fit the fun atmosphere and bring the walls more to life than they already are. All show pieces must be family friendly and hang-ready.

A property on the north side of Broadway is up for sale with mixed use possibilities. There is a commercial storefront on the first floor and two apartments above, and judging from the photo, maybe even a bit of yard property. This is west of 9W, so I believe it is outside the historic district that would require you to go to the ARC for façade repairs.

This is a home south of Broadway at the corner of Ann Street. It’s a great little home that has been beat up, but it’s still standing over 100 years later. Like most homes in Newburgh this one is being used as a 3-family home. These homes were never made to house that many families. A ground floor rental could probably work out nice. A short walk away is Habitat for Humanity, Liberty Street and the Ann Street Gallery. However, circumstances can change block by block, or even house to house. So be sure to check out the property in person. Clark Street is not one of the most up and coming streets, but being next to Ann Street and so close to other anchors in a positive aspect. This house could be fixed up really nicely.

A new business is open on Lower Broadway! Newburgh Mercantile offers the opportunity to enjoy a selection of merchandise that reflects the rich and varied creative community that is found in the Hudson Valley region.
The idea came about when Newburgh native Jacqui Jarmann noticed the ad for a storefront space at 75 Broadway, an old firehouse from the 1860’s. She immediately envisioned a boutique of art, home decor, and gift items; as well as the custom picture frames made by Eric Jarmann, her husband. They figured since there is so much talent in the Newburgh area, the shop could feature locally made items.
The Newburgh Mercantile will have their grand opening on Saturday November 1st, 2014 with special hours of 10 AM to 8 PM. Regular store hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 1 PM to 6 PM, other times by appointment. The phone number is 845-238-7640. The web site is www.newburghmercantile.com. They can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
