You might never find this house it is so secluded on this tiny street north of Downing Park. It’s a quaint place that has been updated with Mediterranean and Mid Century Modern touches. It’s a good start if you are interested in preservation or modernization of the home. Whatever your taste may be, the house looks good enough to move in and make changes as you go. The neighboring houses are really quite interesting, especially #16. I am just not sure it still looks the same; for better or worse.

Make Your Own Candy at Commodore Chocolatier

Next Friday and Saturday, make your own candy at Commodore Chocolatier on Broadway! For more details see their Facebook page. Commodore’s is one of Newburgh’s oldest businesses dating back to 1935. It is a beautiful shop if you never have had the chance to visit.

A few tips:

– Plan on arriving early! Historically, this is a well attended event.
– Dress warmly! We grant admission on a first-come first-served basis. Waiting in line this time of year can be a chilly proposition
– Dress in layers! Our kitchen is warm. You may want to remove some extra clothing once you’re inside.

We have had inquiries about the acceptable age range of attendees for this event. Naturally, this event is for KIDS OF ALL AGES!!! We hope to see you there, and please spread the word!!!

Recycled Metal Art Sculpture Competition

Local Liberty Street business, Global Recycling, is sponsoring a recycled metal sculpture competition. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and have their constructed sculpture displayed at the “Reclamation” gallery showing in the City of Newburgh in January 2015! Details below:

Global Recycling Inc. is sponsoring a recycled metal sculpture competition. Upon submission review, the chosen artists will construct models of their designs to be displayed at our “REClAMATION” gallery showing in the City of Newburgh during January 2015. Global Recycling Inc. will fabricate the winning artist’s model into a life size sculpture using a variety of ferrous scrap metal. There will also be a $500 cash prize for the winning model. The fabricated sculpture will be positioned outside for public display. Models will be judged by industry professionals based on design, feasibility of fabrication and originality. This contest does not include casting or forge techniques.

DESIGN SUBMISSION DEADLINE: December 13, 2014

Here is an interesting property at the south end of Liberty Street. There are no interior photos, but this is a corner property that has the influence to swing other homes at this intersection in a good or bad way. In it’s current state is isn’t much to look at. But it seems there is potential there, and this looks like it could do well as a multi-family home. There are two entrances, and it appears to have 2 different address: 43 Beacon Street and 89 Liberty. Someone tried to modernize the exterior long ago with vinyl windows and pre-fab stone. I can only guess they did the same in the interior. You know what that means, it’s a lot of work. Fixed up properly, this could be a showcase corner in the Heights.
