If you have been wondering when the Folk Music Hall of Fame was coming to Newburgh, you can stop because it’s not. After many attempts to get funding to create a folk music museum in this vacant shell on Liberty Street, the owners have thrown in the towel. This property abuts Atlas Industries who just closed on the property back in August. They have a few plans in mind, some of which include opening up the space to their property and creating a temporary retail space.
We finally might start seeing more development happening to the southern commercial corridor of Liberty Street which is definitely needed on this end.
Here’s a new rental located just off Liberty Street in front of Washington’s HQ. The listing is calling this a “NY style studio apartment”. There are some really beautiful featured inside, like french doors, a fireplace, and a kitchen bar counter top. Right across the street is Jenny’s Florist. One thing to keep in mind however, is that this is located right above the Terrace Tavern. They are known to be pretty rowdy.

Yes there is a huge tree blocking the building, but 75 Liberty is a clever little buy. It is a foreclosure so this is a cash only sale. I was able to tour this building a few weeks ago. All of the copper is gone and they complete wrecked the furnace and stole the boiler. This place will need a lot of work. But, it is on Liberty Street across from Washington’s HQ and in between the little shops that are pushing this area forward.
The building itself is quite small and it has been chopped up in to tiny apartments. There are no original details left except for these great brick fireplaces that are on every floor except the top floor. This street will benefit much more if the potential owner would decide to live in the building instead of just renting out every floor. If you are handy and want to contribute to the Liberty Street renaissance this property is a nice option. The high taxes might reflect the 4 apartments that have been created here. A nice option would be to link the first floor (semi-basement) with second floor into one unit. Or, if you can keep it all for yourself! Details below.

There are have been rumors about new businesses opening up in the Washington Market/Liberty Street corridor. Here at 71 Liberty we see such rumors confirmed. The yellow lettering says : “Juice Bar Coming Soon! Nov 2013”. The owner, Devon is a Newburgh native and NFA graduate. He grew up on Liberty Street just a few doors down from where the juice bar will be located. According to an insider he’s been wanting to get this started for years and he wants to bring healthy and good things to Newburgh and is very excited about promoting good nutrition and a peaceful vibe to the city.
The name of the new business is ‘Juice Headquarters’. Devon thinks Newburgh is on its way back and sees similarities between Newburgh and Ft. Greene, Brooklyn and Harlem. Liberty Street keeps chugging along…it’s wonderful!

This property pretty much sells itself. It is located directly in front of Washington’s Headquarters and has 2 apartments plus a shop on the ground floor. It was updated quite nicely when Newburgh Art Supply moved in a few years ago. But now the property will be delivered vacant according to the listing. It would be great to see an owner come in here who also wants to be apart of the Newburgh Renaissance and who will pick a tenant for the shop that will contribute to the downtown shopping experience, not just storage. No interior photos unfortunately.
