She thought it would be great to offer her services in Newburgh and to offer families a way to get portraits done without having to drop a ton of money.

Here’s the deal: She will do a photo shoot at one of the local parks or another location. She will take your email address and then email you the photos from the shoot. No water marks, and with her full permission to get them printed anywhere.

If you are a fan of the Newburgh Historical Society on Facebook, then you’d know that last week a historical film pre-pilot was being shot at the Crawford House. Volunteers filmed with Robert Sabuda using the story of the Crawford Family.

As part of the filming they reenacted scenes of David, his wife and daughters in the house in the 1850’s. Director Johanna Porr played the eldest daughter in the wedding scene and Michael Gabor played the role of a house painter showing color swatches to Mrs. Crawford.

The show, which will be be about historic homes and families will be pitched to a few networks. The idea is to shop the pre-pilot around to get money to do an actual pilot from a large production company. It would be exciting to see the Crawford House on the big screen! More information is available in this article from the HV Press.

Vaux & Olmsted’s “Other” Central Park is the title of an article recently written on bobvila.com about Downing Park. Like every great city, green spaces are essential to balance out the urban landscape. Apart from the Hudson River and Washington’s Headquarters, Newburgh has this historic park with trees over 100 years old designed by legendary landscape architects Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

“Downing Park has serpentine paths and picturesque vistas—features very similar, though on a different scale, to those of New York City’s Central Park,” points out Christopher Tripoli, executive director of the Downing Park Planning Committee, which oversees and maintains the park. “Andrew Jackson Downing was Olmsted and Vaux’s mentor and lived in Newburgh his whole life. This was the last park that Olmsted and Vaux designed together and the only park that they collaborated on with their sons, John Olmsted and Downing Vaux.”
