Safe Harbors of the Hudson has decided to use some of their empty storefront space as a makeshift phantom art gallery to sponsor the artwork of some of their residents of The Cornerstone Building. This was blogged about before. This is exciting to see that some people have also thought about this idea. And it is working. In the short time that I came up to take some photos, this woman and her husband had stopped their car just to come and take a look at the art work. Now imagine if this could happen in more empty storefront spaces in the city? Surely the impact would be positive. An informant told me that there are plans to do this in the empty window spaces at the City Club. They should be up very soon, if not already.

Sorry for the glares on the windows. My photography skills are lacking.

Did you know that there is a place to go wine tasting in Newburgh? Well, down by the waterfront in the Yellow Bird Building is Vino 100. There they have wine tasting what seems to be every Friday from 4-8pm. They are located right next to the Downing Film Center. One reviewer had this to say of the film center, “One of the best places to see an indie/foreign film. The owners are very kind individuals who never give any problems. The snacks they offer are great and the setting is well organized. But, seating is very limited, so reservations are a must.”

The perfect night out! You can have wine and a movie (and dinner by the other nearby restaurants at the waterfront in walking distance). This week the Downing Film Center will be showing “Adam” with showings at 5:30 and 8:15.

So you see, Newburgh does have interesting and cultural venues. You just have to search them out. Vino 100 also has a wine blog that you can check out here.

PS-Does anybody know what is going on with the Yellow Bird Art Gallery that is no more? The space and the sign are there, but no art work inside. At least they could put up some art work just to make the empty windows and side walk look pretty.

Monday was the last day of the Newburgh International Waterfront Festival and I just wanted to share a few photos of the event if you have not seen the photos on Flickr, or if you weren’t able to attend. It was really nice to see all kinds of families out enjoying the gorgeous weather this past weekend. There was a great mix of all kinds of people from different ethnic backgrounds. Taste buds with a flair for Latin, West Indian, and European cuisine were not disappointed…

It was also really great to see the West Shore Train Station surrounded by life and by people. You could definitely hear the buzz of people around you talking about the excitement of the restoration of the train station and what is to become of it. People are ready to see what will happen there. The new windows look great and the new copper gutters are gorgeous. Enjoy the photos! Click here to see the rest.
