The Ritz Theater has announced a new series of concerts called the “Tom Humphrey Guitar Series.” Concerts will span from October 9, 2009 till April 24, 2010.

As mentioned in the press release for the event,

“The Tom Humphrey Guitar Series serves to honor the memory of the legendary Hudson Valley-based luthier who passed away in 2008. The idea for the concerts came from Tom Humphrey just two months before his death. In a series of meetings with Chris Silva of the Bardavon, Richard Cocco, Jr. of La Bella Strings and Tricia Haggerty Wenz of the Ritz Theater and Safe Harbors of the Hudson, Humphrey laid the ground work for a guitar series at the Ritz which kicked off its inaugural season with performances by Odair Assad, Pete Seeger, Bucky Pizzarelli and others.”

Proceeds go to the restoration of the Ritz Theater. The concerts will be held in the Ritz Theater Lobby at 107 Broadway in Newburgh (the theater stage is in the process of restoration for 2010), and tickets can be purchased through www.ticketweb.com or by calling (866) 468-7619, or through the Ritz Box Office (cash or check only) by calling (845) 784-1199. All tickets are $25, general admission and include a reception with the musicians immediately following the concert.

Tomorrow at the Newburgh Free Library from 7-9pm, there will be an author screening of the book “Lost Towns of the Hudson Valley” by authors Wesley and Barbara Gottlock. Although it is not clear whether Newburgh is included as one of these “lost towns” but, the authors do have this to say of their book:

“This books tells the tale of towns located in New York’s Hudson River Valley that met their demise almost as quickly as they were established. Only traces of these once vibrant towns can now be found.”

The books is available for purchase from Barnes and Noble and Amazon. They also have some other pretty amazing books about other areas of New York, such as Bannerman Castle, and Palisades Park.
