Rescue Me – 52 Liberty Street

Abandoned Vacant Newburgh HomesThis is an abandoned property over on Liberty close the the corner of Courtney. The lime green has seen better days, not to mention it is probably out of code for the ARC. I love how the original door still remains and the shutters on the basement windows are something you don’t normally see either. The porch makes me wish I was a master carpenter to learn how to repair it. I have no other information on this property and have no clue what the interior looks like. Feel free to post comments with any knowledge you might have.

Newburgh is New York State’s second largest historic district after NYC. Newburgh literally has hundreds of dilapidated and abandoned buildings just begging for someone to come scoop them up and restore them.I’ll continue to post my own photos, but if you have a particular building you would like to see saved, email me the photo of any building you appreciate that you would like to see rescued. You never know who you might inspire!

  • All in all this is an excellent candidate for restoration. Any idea if it’s brick construction throughout or just the facade? The cornice looks decent too (except for over the porch/around the downspout). Looks like there may be a two-story bay window to the right as well.

  • I just got a couple of email from people who feel the same way Michael. Hopefully in the future we’ll be seeing some good changes done to this home.

I have a picture of the side of the home, and the side is made out of brick as well- it’s just painted white.

  • Yep, it’s brick construction throughout.

I was inside about 5 1/2 years ago (it was occupied and for sale at the time), and it was a mess. Since then, it’s been sitting unoccupied (I believe it was condemned, but don’t hold me to that) and has been the victim of multiple break-ins and vandals — the stairs appeared to have been destroyed with a sledgehammer at some point.

That block of Liberty between Courtney and Overlook has great potential in general. I love the wood frame house to the left of this one, too.

  • Check back this Friday, I’m going to show it’s next door neighbor. There is a lot of potential over there!
