Six Proposals for Mid Broadway Project

Remember back in April the City of Newburgh was offering up RFQ’s to develop the huge empty lot on Broadway? The City has now received 6 proposals. You can read more details at the Newburgh Advocate. Ms. Johnston did a great job at getting copies of the RFQ’s and there are even a few rendering concepts included. The best ideas yet, an urban supermarket with office space and medical offices above. Take a look and see what you think for yourself.

  • I love to read about new ideas taking hold in Newburgh and promoting the redevelopment of a place I love so well!! I read the brief proposals and really like the mixed use idea from NCDC. A grocery store is needed in the area, but a training facility would be an added benefit. Culinary training, nursing programs with SUNY Orange, carpentry from Habitat – the list is limitless.

  • This is such a huge piece of property. Several markets located in one building would be ideal. What about a fish market, a butcher, a cheese store, a grocery store. a fine wines store, a fresh vegetable market, a flower store, maybe a bakery. You get the idea. the people who live in the area would benefit as well as it would draw people from outside the city. People like one stop shopping.

  • Folks there has not been a supermarket for the locals in the city of newburgh since 1981, that is so horrible. The residents that dont have transportation to go to Price Chopper in the town and so forth are stuck buying overpriced, spoiled, outdated groceries in the local bodegas who only stack up fresh tobacco, alcohol, junk foods, etc. A supermarket that will carry fresh produce, meats, bread, well secured, etc, also local residents need to be educated on spending their money wisely, instead of buying in corner stores, buy fresh in supermarkets, and educate residents on eating healthier, instead of buying chik-o-sticks, or potato chips, eat a granola bar, its not just a supermarket, but a government office that educates the locals on money manangement, eating right, etc.
