Newburgh Real Estate: 197 1st Street

This handyman special looks like it has great potential from the outside. Unfortunately this is the only photo that any real estate listing is offering for the property. It’s currently on the market for less than half of what it sold two years ago. It’s located across the street from St. Luke’s Hospital and a church. From the street it looks like the home is grandly raised a few feet higher than the curb. Anybody have any news on the status of the grant that was supposed to be used to fix up homes on Dubois Street? This area really needs it.

  • My great great grandfather build most of the 200 block of First Street =- and my grandmother lived in one of the houses – 274 which her grandfather built for years – he also built 272 and 276 – what has happened to that area since the 1950s when I was a child going there (remember Duggans Candy Store ? ) is criminal – I am glad that there is some movement to clean it OUT and clean it up – if my grandmother ever saw what they did to her home at 274 – she would be very very sad- kudos to Newburgh restoration for at least trying
