Newburgh Mural Project Completes Second Mural “Roots”

Newburgh Mural

On Saturday, June 9th, the second mural in the Newburgh Mural Project’s “Life in Color Series” was unveiled at 33 Chambers Street.  The Mural, commissioned by Newburgh residents Decora Sandiford and Jenny Loeb, is entitled “Roots” and is the second of 5 murals completed by internationally renown graffiti artist Dasic Fernandez.

The striking silhouette captured in the “Roots” mural fuses the past and the present through the silhouette of a young man who is looking towards the future while the past, his roots, are reflected within him.

The Newburgh Mural Project is a public art and education program with a mission to inspire the growth of arts and culture in the community by transforming public spaces into public works of art celebrating the City of Newburgh’s spirit and vibrancy. The  Project will develop five large-scale murals in the City of Newburgh; provide local youth with an opportunity to learn about mural-making; and will work with youth artists to develop other public art projects.  For more information about the Newburgh Mural Project, visit  www.newburghmuralproject.wordpress.com and follow them on Facebook/NewburghMuralProject
