Folk Music Hall of Fame Benefit Concert

It has been two years since we last heard from the Folk Music Hall of Fame. We were able to see grand plans and renderings which created much excitement. Then things went silent. So much so, it seemed as though the plans had fallen through. The hall of fame is to be located at 67 Liberty Street. Right now it is just a shell. But, on November 2nd at the Theater at the West Shore Train Station they are planning a benefit concert. As they say on their website: we have the land, we have the architects. Now they are targeting a gala Spring 2014 completion. They are seeking:

  • Benefit Performers
  • Instrument Donations
  • Teachers – for 2014 Classes
  • Manufacturers of folk instruments
  • Instrument restoration craftsmen
  • Volunteer Building Construction Talent
  • Building Material Donations

If these plans become a reality, the hall of fame will not only save a crumbling building but also perpetuate the revitalization of the area that is already happening just a few feet behind this building on Spring Street in the Atlas Warehouse.

  • Wow, this would be a great project to see finished. More of these types of endeavors would be a big help to give the area “destination traffic”. Beacon made a big transition after Dia opened, so having more places to check out in Newburgh for visitors would be great. Hope they can get work underway.

This is a wonderful project if it can be brought to fruition, I hope many of us come out to support it!
