This is a million dollar house with million dollar views, it just doesn’t look like it-yet. Bay View Terrace borders the east side of the property and has some of the most amazing uninterrupted Hudson River views Newburgh has to offer. To survive Newburgh’s decline the home has been split up into 6 different rental units from what we can tell. But now there is a chance to bring this grand Victorian Lady back. There are next to no interior photos available, but there seems to be original details left to be restored like the entry staircase painted over in a dark gray.
Slowly but surely many homes on or near the bluff are starting to be rehabilitated. Hopefully this one will join the ranks. We’ll be watching closely to see if anyone buys it.

This is a beautiful house! You’d have plenty of opportunity to shift the room layout around with all that plumbing too
Good point Maggie. Sad the turret was removed. Maybe there is original siding under vinyl?
This is an amazing corner and when I was in Newburgh for the historic tour I noticed this property. It’s the taxes though that just stop me from purchasing there. I hope a great person captures this place, it’s really a lovely view.
This from a distant cousin of Col. Weygant: He was quite a figure in the greater Newburgh area from the Civil War until the early XXth C. Weygant assumed command of the 124th in the Battle for Devil’s Den at Gettysburg when the regiment’s commander, Col. Ellis died in battle. Ellis and others killed in that battle are memorialized on a small monument in Devil’s Den. Weygant wrote a book about the 124th which was involved in most of the great battles from Gettysburg until Appomattox – the regiment was present at Lee’s surrender. Weygant held several elected offices, including sheriff of Orange County – did not know he was also a builder, but hey one has to pay the bills. In the center of Goshen, the Orange County seat, you will find an impressive Civil War monument for those who served from Orange County – the monument was dedicated by Col. Weygant in 1904, or so.
I’m also a distant relative of Col. Weygant….my grandmother was a Weygant……
But this wasn’t Colonel Weygant’s house, was it? I have an old book that lists Colonel Weygant’s house as being another Estabrook-designed place just down the block a bit.
James, I just added the other image that explains the Col. Weygant connection. He developed the land that would become Washington Heights.
Ah, thank you for that! I’m easily confused:)
THEY DON’T MAKE HOMES LIKE THIS ANYMORE.
Unfortunately, the lots across the street are available for sale. Not sure who would purchase them but it would take away a major reason to buy the house in the first place.
Dylan, the lot belongs to that house, but cannot be developed due to historic view and park area
The Orange County web site, a great site for general info, has total taxes as $21k. . Some what confusing, however, as it has a build date of 1970, perhaps the date of multi-family conversion.
