  • According to citydata.com and newburgh’s own police blotters, in most categories, Newburgh’s crime has been steadily decreasing over the last 4-5 years (2010 was a very bad year for murders, and 2011 was bad in most other regards.) One notable exception was sexual assault, which increased dramatically, but hopefully this is just a case of such crimes actually getting reported instead of ignored, which has indeed been the national trend. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/12/college-sexual-assault-numbers-clery-reports_n_5967412.html

I think the Record’s story is a little bit of an exaggeration. They specifically mention firearms incidents, which had an unusually high spike in 2014, so it was bound to go back down. Overall, the crime levels are heading in the right direction.

-The Balmville tree stands as a symbol of 21st century decision making policy, I’d hate to see it gone ; ]
-Tactical Urbanism, it’s a sign of the times. Wary of its seemingly benign acceptance, giving its common social political over tones, I think it serves as a ‘pressure relief valve’ of sorts. More please…
