People often ask me ways they can financially support efforts to bring back the City of Newburgh. Yesterday, a campaign was announced to raise funds to bring back to life an empty lot that is located at the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street by Safe Harbors of the Hudson.

They are calling it Safe Harbors Green, an innovative, green space in the center of Newburgh’s downtown that will serve as a fully accessible urban park; an animated gathering place for markets, festivals, public art and performance, community connection, contemplation and recreation.

An Indiegogo page has been set up to collect the remaining donations needed to make this park a reality. You can also donate through the Safe Harbors website, or by mailing them a check.

Construction is scheduled to begin May 2, and completion is anticipated by the fall. The future park is in a critical location for the City of Newburgh. Located at the crossroads of the two major streets of Newburgh’s revitalization, this park will fully represent what it has naturally become – a gathering place in the heart of the city.
